The Silent Disco: digital party invitation
Put the headphones on. Pick your channel.
A silent disco on New Year's Eve, and the invitation is one itself. Everything starts silent and grey: a pair of headphones waits, the dance floor does not move. Put them on and the page switches on: the lights come up, an equaliser starts moving and you hear channel 2. Three buttons switch channels, and with each channel the whole page changes colour and tempo: red and fast with DJ Nour (techno), green and singable with DJ Vik (2000 to 2012), blue and slow with DJ Grandpa (guilty pleasures). A volume slider makes the bars grow. The card with the details appears as soon as the headphones are on. On the dance floor stand twenty-four dancers, each with lights in the colour of their channel: tap someone to switch their channel and a counter tracks which DJ is winning. The programme has a setlist per DJ with tabs, the practical details live in five house rules at the rental desk. When you RSVP you pick your starting channel and a song request for midnight; you appear on the dance floor yourself, with your name and the colour of your channel.
The demo opens in a new tab, with sample text and sample photos.
